Information and Situation for current aspiring lawyers

So why create this blog?

Although there are several prominent law related and law student blogs available....I feel there is still a clout residing over what lies ahead for aspiring attorneys/prospective law students.

1st off--
This is the middle of the application cycle. Most students applying to Top 14 law schools have had their applications in for months now.....However other more mainstream students are still meddling through a myriad of applications at the moment. So how do we assess what's going on? Its tough. Some students feel that they don't understand exactly what law schools are looking for--or compelling reasons to apply-----> A sense of direction so to speak.

the issue here is:
Do undergraduate students who have simply taken their LSAT's really know why they want to attend law school (and I mean REAL reasons--not simply I want to be an attorney based on research..etc..). I would think the clear answer is no. Most undergraduate students simply have their head in their ass....I don't mean this in a begrudging way---but honestly it's tough to understand the legal market and what the future holds..until were actually a part of it.

So please.... respond with your comments. Do you think I'm right here. Or do undergraduate students really know what their getting into when it comes to law school?

I think your blog is a good idea but you may be trying to take on more than you can, at this point in your life, actually do. You are trying to answer a very complicated question that will have a different answer for every reader or potential T2/3 law school student.

I think you should just stick to writing your experiences as someone attending a T2/3 law school and not try to answer a grand question or prove anything. Once you get into law school, it would be nice to see your opinions on the quality of the students, the education, career services, resources and opportunities, etc. Most 1L blogs tend to skip over information like that, which is what I find the most beneficial to potential students. Of course, if you find relevant articles on the state of T2/3 students, it would be good to discuss them.

Even better, if you can befriend a person at a higher tiered school and lower tiered school(or maybe even converse with a student over the internet) to compare your experiences in the areas I just mentioned, that would be excellent. I will be attending either a T25 or a mid-T1 school and would be willing to help you on this.

If not for my URM status I know that I would destined to a T3/4 so I appreciate your efforts in this area. Good luck with your project.

thanks for your comments. I can understand what your referring to: It is a rather huge and almost philosophical task to try to define the reasons to attend law school. But I figured i would try to clarify the muddle. But your absolutely right-- focusing will only make my blog more useful.

With only the best of helpful intentions:

Skills that are incredibly important in law school and the legal profession are writing skills.

We are = We're, not were.

You are = You're, not your.

They are = They're, not their.

I have no idea what it means to have a "clout" residing over what lies ahead. Perhaps you mean a cloud?

Law school (including the lower tiers) can be a bitch... full of nitpicky professors and students that will rip you up and make you feel small for minor errors. Attention to detail is very important.

If you want to succeed in law school and beyond, consider improving your writing skills while you have a chance. Become an obsessive copyediting freak. The sooner you do, the better, because law school will either painfully turn you into one, or it will spit you out.
